How to Take Care of Your New Fairy Tattoo

So you got new fairy tattoo, and it looks great. You are ready to show it off and tell everyone why you choose that design. That is all fine and dandy, but there are some things you must do for your new tattoo. You have to make sure that you take care of your new fairy tattoo so it will heal properly. If you don’t pay attention to your new tattoo or treat it incorrectly, you could get an infection. And an infection could cause the colour to be altered permanently or destroy the shape of the image that you just had inked. You want to keep your fairy beautiful, so here are some things that you need to do to make sure she stays that way.

Here are the necessary provisions that are needed to treat your new tattoo:

  • A Washcloth
  • Baggy clothing
  • Antibiotic Soap and Ointment
  • Skin Lotion
  • Sunscreen

To properly treat your new fairy tattoo, make sure that you follow these steps:

  1. Wait at least two hours before you remove your bandage on your tattoo after it is complete, if your tattoo artist told you to wait longer than two hours, do so. The bandage is there to protect against bacteria and infections.
  2. When it is time to remove the bandage, do so with care and discard the wrappings. Now your tattoo will be able to breathe and start the healing process. Do not re-bandage the tattoo.
  3. Carefully and gently, wash your tattoo with antibiotic soap and rinse with lukewarm water. Dry it off by patting it gently with a dry washcloth, don’t rub the tattoo dry and do not use a paper towel.
  4. Now use some antibiotic ointment and dab a small amount over the whole tattoo. Some people are allergic to zinc, so its best avoid any ointments that includes zinc in the ingredients. Nowadays, most tattoo parlours have their own ointments available as a complementary item or for purchase, these are fine to use.
  5. Make sure that you lightly apply the antibiotic ointment for the next few days, after that switch to an unscented skin lotion.
  6. It is good for your tattoo to get air, as this helps with the healing. But the sun is not so good for your tattoo, make sure you apply sunscreen if you plan on being in the sun.
  7. While your tattoo is healing, avoid extreme exposure to water. A daily shower is okay, but avoid baths and swimming for a week or two.

Here are some more helpful tips:

  • Leave the scabs alone, no picking or scratching at them, you could cause a scar and potentially ruin your tattoo. For comfort, apply a damp compress for 5 minutes a few times a day, this will help the scabs come off.
  • Try to wear baggy clothing until your tattoo has healed, which should be two weeks.
  • Keep up with the sunscreen even after your tattoo has healed, doing this will help prevent burns and fading.
